Small Stream/River Levels

We received just about an inch of rain last night from the heavy storms that came through. This caused all local streams to rise in level and be pretty dirty. They should clear up quickly, hopefully in just a few days. That doesn't mean you won't be able to catch any trout though. Target shoreline eddies with gold spinners and fathead minnows and you should find plenty of hungry trout. Time of day of your trip will matter less now since the trout will be a lot less spooky than they have been in the clear and low water.

The river at Harrisburg is only forecasted to rise to a level of 4.5 feet. At this level, most areas will be navigable by jet boats and floaters. You will still need to use caution, especially when running any motor with a prop. Smallmouth will be spawning still as the water levels shouldn't be high enough to alter their spawning activity. Anglers using spinnerbaits are absolutely hammering the smallies down in the area of Goldsboro, the main pool.

Pinchot levels remain steady as of this moring. Lots of shad of busting on the surface at boat ramp #2, the main boat launch. Soft and hard jerkbaits and other shad imitation lures will be your best bet for the hybrid stripers. Jig-N-Pig, spinnerbaits and soft jerkbaits are your best bet for largemouth bass. Don't be surprised if you latch into a nice big Pinchot smallmouth too as they are getting active as well.

A crappie angler stopped in this morning to get bait. He was out on the lake yesterday and reported catching 19 nice sized crappie and almost as many largemouth bass. He was using fathead minnows and small shiners. He targeted water depths of 8 to 10 feet, trying to locate any available brush piles.

The weather only calls for showers this weekend so it should be good fishing for your weekend trips. Have a great weekend!

Tim
