Fishing Report Jan 18, 2006

The crappie at Pinchot State Park have perked up these last few days. This past Tuesday one fellow reported catching 28 keeper crappie between 11 and 13 inches. He used mostly fat head minnows along with some plastic grubs to catch those crappies. Largemouth are still hard to come by, even with the warm up we've had. Some small bluegills have been seen in shallow water near boat ramp #2 but bass are still hanging deep.

The lake level should rise considerably after last night's rain. Things will settle down for the weekend though and the crappie fishing should be excellent with the day time highs predicted in the 40's and 50's over the next 5 days.

The river is still fishing well at Brunner Island for walleye, stripers and smallmouth. One angler brought in a picture of a nice walleye caught in the river recently. It measured over 30 inches and weighed 9.2 lbs. It was caught on a hair jig along with numerous other walleyes in the 5 and 6 pound range. Those were caught in the area of the Dauphin Narrows.
